Presidio Lodging's Green Initiative

The goal of Presidio Lodging’s green initiative is to live in harmony with nature and protect the environment and other living beings that inhabit the earth. This vision aligns with the National Park Service’s role as steward for our parks, and a model for sustainable resource management. Designing and building multiple hotels inside a national park creates unique challenges. Both of Presidio Lodging’s hotels started with the careful restoration of historic buildings in the Presidio of San Francisco, a national park site in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. The foundation of our restoration work required careful design, an eye for maintaining all the beautiful historic details in the buildings, and incorporating innovative “green” practices in our design.

We made an investment in energy conservation. This ranged from installing low-power electrical systems to water-conserving appliances in our hotels. We also used non-toxic and low-emitting materials for paints, flooring, adhesives, fabrics, carpets, and composite wood materials.

Following the completion of the hotels’ restoration work, the second phase of our conservation efforts included a commitment to setting the bar for green operations, housekeeping, cleaning, and waste management. In our day-to-day operations, we remain committed to sourcing and purchasing materials locally whenever possible.

Surrounding both hotels are forests, beaches, and trails that help awaken a greater awareness and appreciation for nature within our community. One of the first steps toward environmental conservation is simply setting out on foot and exploring the park.
