Scenic Overlooks In the Presidio of San Francisco

The Presidio of San Francisco is located at the northern tip of the San Francisco peninsula. On the west, the Pacific Ocean crashes against the shore, on the north, the majestic Golden Gate Bridge crosses over the bay, and on the east, the ships sail into the San Francisco Bay. It might be difficult to find a location in the Presidio that does not have a good view, however, there are special locations in the park where the views are simply astounding. For our short video, we captured just four of these overlooks, but we could explore these special locations for days.

  • Golden Gate Overlook – looks straight north into southbound traffic on the Golden Gate Bridge. The view frames the bridge’s twin towers with giant old cypress trees standing like guards over the bridge.
  • Battery Godfrey – sits on the edge of the cliffs above the Pacific Ocean and offers views of Lands End to the south and to Marin Headlands to the north.
  • Crissy Field Overlook – may be the favorite view of many visitors, as from its vantage point you can watch the sailboats racing across the San Francisco Bay, Alcatraz and Angel Island at center stage, and the iconic San Francisco skyline in the distance.
  • Inspiration Point Overlook – is located on the hill that overlooks both the bay and the city of San Francisco. If romance is your plan, then this is the place to visit as the view of the city is unparalleled.

Every visitor to the Presidio comes away with a collection of views that inspire friends and family to come to the park and spend days wandering the trails and overlooks.
