San Francisco comes alive during its Indian summer when it’s finally warmer than actual summer. The city’s infamous Karl the Fog gives way to clear, sunny skies and the city is seriously magical. Stay at the Inn at the Presidio inside the beautiful The Presidio of San Francisco, a national park at the Golden Gate Bridge, which is right across the street.

Away from towering high rises, this is a different kind of San Francisco stay, an undoubtedly better one. This historic hotel, located at the northern tip of the city in a national park next to the Golden Gate Bridge, provides its guests a serene stay in an otherwise bustling city.

Located within the Presidio of San Francisco, California, the Presidio Golf Course dates to 1895, when John Lawson designed nine holes for military officers to play. Lawson noted, “God shaped this land to be a golf course. I simply followed nature.”

The natural beauty – sand, surf and sequoias – reminds you to start your digital detox already.

A former U.S. Army post-turned-national park, the sprawling Presidio encompasses about five percent of the entire city.

The Inn at the Presidio places visitors right in the heart of this former military-post-turned-national park.

Shielded from the noise of the big city, I stay alternately in the Inn at the Presidio and in the Lodge at the Presidio in a 1,500-acre park and I can see the famous Golden Gate Bridge from my room window. There is hardly a more exclusive and secluded place to stay in this city, even though you are in the center of all the top attractions.

The Presidio is a beautiful, sprawling national park site tucked away in the heart of San Francisco and is brimming with fascinating history. From its beginnings under Spanish rule through Mexican control and the establishment of what is present-day San Francisco, to 1846, when the Presidio became a U.S. outpost, this expansive area in the heart of San Francisco has been a renowned military establishment.

One of San Francisco’s many jewels, the 1500-acre Presidio National Park has hiking trails, a sandy beach and a lovely hotel. The Inn at the Presidio is in an elegant Georgian Revival-style building that would have been a home for bachelor officers when the park was a U.S. Army Post.
