The Inn at the Presidio places visitors right in the heart of this former military-post-turned-national park.

Inn at the Presidio and Lodge at the Presidio are recognized for top industry standards in green practices San Francisco, CA (November 18, 2022) – The two historic boutique hotels in the Presidio of San Francisco, Inn at the Presidio and Lodge at the Presidio, were honored with the 2022 Historic Hotels of America Sustainability Champion Award on November 17 in a ceremony in Point Clear, Alabama.

Shielded from the noise of the big city, I stay alternately in the Inn at the Presidio and in the Lodge at the Presidio in a 1,500-acre park and I can see the famous Golden Gate Bridge from my room window. There is hardly a more exclusive and secluded place to stay in this city, even though you are in the center of all the top attractions.

The Presidio is a beautiful, sprawling national park site tucked away in the heart of San Francisco and is brimming with fascinating history. From its beginnings under Spanish rule through Mexican control and the establishment of what is present-day San Francisco, to 1846, when the Presidio became a U.S. outpost, this expansive area in the heart of San Francisco has been a renowned military establishment.

One of San Francisco’s many jewels, the 1500-acre Presidio National Park has hiking trails, a sandy beach and a lovely hotel. The Inn at the Presidio is in an elegant Georgian Revival-style building that would have been a home for bachelor officers when the park was a U.S. Army Post.

On April 1, – the historic Inn at the Presidio will open for guests after being closed for most of the past year. This celebratory reopening is nine years to the day after the Inn originally opened on April 1, 2012 with much fanfare as the first lodging in the Presidio. “We are thrilled to welcome guests again to our serene getaway,” says Terry Haney, Managing Director, Presidio Lodging. “Spring is a time for renewal and as we reopen our doors, we look forward to being that restorative refuge that people are seeking.”

October marks 25 years since the Presidio transitioned from a US Army post to a national park located within the Golden Gate National Recreation Area. One of the crowning gems of its many historic buildings is the Lodge at the Presidio. The restored 1897 red brick Colonial Revival barracks housed thousands of soldiers throughout the past hundred years, and is now a unique boutique hotel with history, provenance, and style.

The Lodge at the Presidio, set within a 1,500 acre national park, has one of the city’s best vantage points for viewing and visiting the Golden Gate Bridge.

Offering a bit of nature amid the urban bustle of San Francisco, the Lodge at the Presidio is housed in former army barracks that date back to the 1890s and are part of the ongoing restoration of the Presidio of San Francisco, a 1,500-acre park in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area.

It’s not just the Golden Gate Bridge views that make this smart boutique hotel special. Planted in the heart of San Francisco’s Presidio national park, the surrounding forest and coast envelop guests in the city’s natural beauty.
