The Lodge at the Presidio is honored to receive the recognition that comes with the LEED Gold Certification, but the real sense of accomplishment comes from our pride in providing this level of commitment to the community.
Not everyone notices the thousands of details that need to work together to create a LEED-certified hotel. (LEED = Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design). A LEED-certified hotel must address all aspects of operations from environmentally friendly cleaning solutions to energy usage, water conservation, and non-toxic products at every level. The Lodge shares this honor with its sister property, Inn at the Presidio, which received this prestigious award in 2012.
Outside the doors of the hotel, another form of environmental conservancy is taking place. The 1500 acres of the Presidio are home to hundreds of species of both native and non-native plants and trees. The historical forests were originally planted in 1883 and are now reaching an advanced state of maturity. Only through meticulous thinning and replanting can the historic forest be preserved. The Presidio is also involved in restoring the native habitat of the park in an effort to plant species of plants that inhabited the sandy dunes and marshes hundreds of years ago.
The Presidio has the dual mission of protecting natural resources and providing public enjoyment, and has creatively found ways to do both. The Trust follows the guidelines of the Vegetation Management Plan (VMP), which requires both government coordination and public participation. The participation of the community is guided by the Presidio stewardship volunteer program and represents a beautiful way to participate in the restoration of the park.
Come visit the Presidio and wander the 24 miles of trails. Stroll down the Wood Line trail and take a minute watching the historic eucalyptus trees dance in the wind. Come to either hotel and take a minute to sit in the lobby and enjoy the sunlight and fresh air. All the pieces of this green picture appear to fit together in a manner that might lead you to believe that it just happened this way. In truth, the park’s green inside and outside attributes took hundreds of thousands of hours to design, build, and maintain. It is a process of love and devotion to this fantastic national park and we delight in every step forward.
